The Si Xiang (four elements) refer to the four major star regions in the sky, the southeast, the northwest, and the north. The concept of the Si Xiang was highly valued in the ancient pan-East Asian cultural circle. The ancients visualized the seven constellations in each of the four directions of the east, south, west, and north as four animal figures, called the “Si Xiang”.
