Legend has it that Du Kang, the inventor of winemaking in ancient Chinese legend, was, according to one theory, the ruler of the Xia Dynasty, and according to another, a minister of the Huang Di. Because he was good at brewing wine, Du Kang was honored as the god of wine in later times, and the wine-making industry worshiped Du Kang as its master. In later times, the word “Du Kang” was often used to refer to wine. According to another legend, Du Kang’s son, Heita, invented vinegar.
