Preface: This story tells the tale of the hundred spirits who got rid of the ferocious Long with their wisdom. It tells us that even in the face of a vicious enemy, we can solve the problem with wisdom and goodwill, and that mutual understanding and help are the best solutions.
In ancient times, in a remote mountain village, there lived a fierce Long who often swooped down from the mountain to devour people and livestock, causing great distress to the villagers.
The villagers had to organize and search for a way to confront this ferocious Long.
In the village, there was a young man named Bailing. Although he was physically small, he had a kind heart and was always ready to help others.
Bailing often helped the villagers with their work and was greatly loved by everyone.
Seeing the villagers’ anxiety and fear caused by the dragon, Bailing decided to take the initiative and go find the Long to free the villagers from their troubles.
So, Bailing embarked on a journey to the mountains to search for the Long.
In the mountains, Bailing encountered a fox, who told him that the Long’s nest was in a nearby cave.
The fox warned Bailing, “The Long is very fierce. Be careful.”
With determination in his heart, Bailing decided to find the Long and free the villagers from their troubles.
So, Bailing entered the Long’s nest.
Seeing Bailing intrude into its nest, the Long was very angry and opened its big mouth, ready to swallow Bailing whole.
Without fear, Bailing shouted loudly at the Long, “Long, why do you harm our villagers? They haven’t offended you. Why are you so fierce?”
The Long grinned and said to Bailing, “Because I want to hurt them and let them feel my fear. I enjoy their terror and fright.”
Bailing continued to say to the Long, “Look how terrifying you look. Do you think this brings you happiness? Look how happy the villagers are. They sing, dance, farm, and release animals. How harmonious and content they are.”
The Long fell silent. Seizing the opportunity, Bailing continued, “We should help and understand each other, not harm each other. Do you think what you are doing is right?”
The Long stood silently, with a hint of regret on its face.
Seeing this, Bailing continued to say to the Long, “Can you promise me that you will not harm the villagers anymore? We can coexist peacefully and help each other. Isn’t that better?”
After some thought, the Long finally nodded, expressing its willingness to coexist peacefully with Bailing.
Bailing happily returned to the village and told the villagers that he had reached a reconciliation with the Long. The villagers were also very happy.
From then on, there were no more attacks by the Long in the village. Bailing became a hero in the village and was respected and loved by the villagers.
