The story of Cat’s Bridge took place in Hangzhou, and he told us: we should be a kind-hearted person, and we should not jeopardize everyone’s interests for our own selfishness.
In Hangzhou’s Pipa Street, near a bridge lived an old shoemaker.
He was alone, with only an ugly bald cat as a companion.
Neighbors advised him to get rid of the cat that couldn’t catch mice, but the old shoemaker couldn’t bear to.
One day, a treasure hunter passed by and, seeing the cat, offered 300 taels of silver to buy it.
The old shoemaker refused.
People urged him to sell the cat, but he insisted on not selling, believing that earning a living through labor was enough.
At this time, the bullyBaldy Ah Wu heard about it and forcibly took the cat.
Ah Wu took the cat to catch the jade mice on the top of Liuhe Pagoda, but the cat scared them all away, and Ah Wu fell into the Qiantang River and died.
The treasure hunter arrived to find the jade mice broken and Ah Wu dead, and had to admit his bad luck.
From then on, there were no jade mice on Liuhe Pagoda, and that bridge was called “Cat Bridge.”
