Long, long ago, the first king of Shu was Cancong.
He taught everyone how to raise silkworms, and the silkworm industry in Sichuan became very developed as a result.
The character “Shu” actually means silkworm.
The eyes of the Cancong people were very special, vertically upright.
After Cancong died, people buried him in a stone coffin, and everyone followed suit.
Later, this type of stone coffin tomb was called Congmu Renjia.
After Cancong, Baiguan became the king, and then Yufu.
Under Yufu’s leadership, the lives of the people of Shu improved.
Later, Yufu became an immortal while hunting.
It’s not known how long it passed, but a young man named Duyu descended from the sky and became the king of Shu, known as the Wangdi.
Wangdi cared deeply for the people, teaching them how to farm and to follow the agricultural calendar.
He also tried to control the floods, but was never able to fully succeed.
One day, a male corpse floated upstream in the river, and people were very surprised.
When the body was retrieved, it revived and said its name was Bieling, a native of Chu, who had accidentally fallen into the water and drifted all the way here.
After hearing this, Wangdi met Bieling and found they had a lot in common, so he made him the prime minister.
Soon, a major flood occurred, and Bieling led everyone in controlling the flood by opening up the Wushan Mountains and allowing the water to flow into the Yangtze River, finally eliminating the flood disaster.
Bieling had performed great deeds, and Wangdi was very grateful, so he abdicated the throne to him.
Bieling became the king, known as Emperor Kaiming, also called Emperor Cong.
He cared for the people during his lifetime and still cared about their lives after his death.
Every time it was Qingming, Guyu, Lixia, or Xiaoman, he would fly to the fields and chirp, reminding everyone to sow seeds or plant rice seedlings.
So, people also called the cuckoo bird Duyu, Zigui, and Cuigui.
