Long ago, there was a bare mountain called Bald Mountain. There was nothing on it.

In the Bald Mountain lived a young hunter called Ali.

One day, while hunting, he rescued two fairies and a peacock from the jaws of a tiger.

The fairies had secretly come down to earth to see the scenery but encountered the tiger.

After the Yu Di (the Jade Emperor) learned about it, he sent the Old Immortal to capture them.

Ali, in order to save the fairies, grabbed the Old Immortal’s staff and chased him away.

The Yu Di was furious and ordered the Lei Shen (the God of Thunder) to burn all living beings around Bald Mountain with thunderbolts.

The fairies persuaded Ali to escape, but Ali decided to stay on top of Bald Mountain.

He said to the Lei Shen, “It was me who chased away the Old Immortal and freed the fairies. The disaster was caused by me, and it’s not related to anyone else! Let the thunderbolt come for me!”

The Lei Shen was very angry and unleashed a thunderbolt that shattered Ali, and the surrounding mountains caught fire.

But because it was a bare mountain, the fire soon went out.

After Ali died, Bald Mountain was covered with flowers, trees, and grass.

The fairies were moved by Ali and, despite the Yu Di’s opposition, transformed into the two green Sister Lakes, accompanying him forever.

The peacock also turned into a stream flowing beside him.
